Christmas Fun

We were a laid back bunch at Christmas this year. In fact so much we had dinner in our new Christmas Pajamas as you can see by the picture of my younger sister Crystal and her fab sweet potatoes. The next picture is of my niece opening her Christmas Pajamas , followed by my daughter Christmas morning looking at our stockings. Then there is my daughter and her Uncle Wally (Crystal's husband) they are such the clowns. After that you have my Christmas Broccoli Souffle an old recipe handed down through the generations. My mother finally after 33 years handed the sacred torch over to me and I must break my arm patting myself on the back on this one. I first tried it at Thanksgiving and it was pretty then, but boy I really knocked it out this time, just look at it! Finally Christmas Eve, my niece, daughter and I made luminaries to light the way for my sister and her husband, well of course Santa too. They burned with just a tea candle for quite some time. Hope you still carry fond memories of the Holidays, I know we had a fun and silly time. Hopefully we will have pictures of us all in our sailor hats soon, that is another story for another time. -Misty

Just posting more jewellery from the Sisters Three. The ring which is pink, brown, and white is fully fused securely attached to silver plated ring bands. Ladies Night Out

The earrings are made by my younger sister Crystal, not the best pictures to show off how great they are, sorry. She makes really great earrings to go with her necklaces. Hopefully we will get more pictures up before the end of the week to show off more of her talent. Then the necklace is one I did with purple heart dichoric glass on top of plain purple glass and finished it with soldering decoration. I believe the earrings are $10.00 (plus what ever shipping is) and the necklace is $30.00 (plus what ever shipping is). The earrings are hypo allergenic ( I believe that is the word for it). Go Crazy, Do Something Different

As we (The Sisters Three) start a new art I soon need to find ways to make it different. Here is an example of that, one night I was playing with taking a piece of fused glass and wrapping it with solder. This piece was inspired by my Goth niece and really liked the way it turned out. I encourage you for fun Friday to create a piece of art that you would never have done on your own. Think about a person who marches to a different drummer than you and do something that they would wear or hang. Good luck, feel free to post you creative fun Friday piece! -Misty

Here is a new hot item for sell, my older sister does these rings. She fuses the glass then attatches them securely to the ring back. They are fun and can come in any color. Something Different

Got any old clothes or fabrics not being used? Create a rag weaving out of them, maybe a place matt or if you have enough an actual rug out of them. I think weaving is a great way to relax and clear the mind. I find after weaving I have a clear feeling and this allows me to start a fresh project with nothing blocking my vision. So get out that weird and wacky fabric you will never truly use in a piece of art or maybe that shirt you can't wear anymore but was a great pattern and weave away!

Ah, the days of Summer

Well this old nasty weather can leave now. I absolutely HATE Winter, I love Spring, Fall, heck give me the hot days of Summer! You can have the ice, snow and below 0 temperatures. I was cleaning off my desktop and ran across these pictures from the beginning of the school year. Well the pictures just made me want to cry for the sun and days of capris. As previously mentioned in earlier posts my younger sister and I are Elementary Art Teachers, this year we both did a project called "Pinwheels for Peace." We had our students (all 550 each)create pinwheels and then on Sept. 21st we planted the pinwheels in the front yard of the school. I had my students do a certian color per grade level so then I could plant them like a rainbow. It was an awesome sight to see. It was also a really great way to talk about such things as installation art and collaboration art. The kids loved it and the parents enjoyed seeing them out there. Ok off to work, hey lets all do a sun dance, maybe that will bring Spring on faster! -Misty

It is funny how children are alike but different. Take my neice Winter and daughter Emerald, they are both fun loving and caring children. But their style, hobbies, interests are all so different. Here is just one example, Halloween, Winter loves the blood and guts costumes where as Emerald loves the different ones. My neice Winter is the vampire and my daughter Emerald is Elvis. And yes she knows exactly who Elvis is, he is her favorite singer, her hero, her heartthrob, I blame that one on my mother.

Pumpkin Soup

I love watching the food network for great recipes and ideas. I think cooking is so much fun especially this time of year, almost as fun as eating the great food afterwards. This is a great soup by Rachael Ray, I love this woman she is awesome. Her meals are great and fast to make, so if you are someone on the go alot it is only thirty minutes. I hope you enjoy.

Pumpkin and Black Bean Soup Recipe courtesy Rachael Ray
Show: 30 Minute Meals
Episode: 30-Minute Veggie Feast

2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, 1 turn of the pan
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cups canned or packaged vegetable stock, found on soup aisle
1 can (14 1/2 ounces) diced tomatoes in juice
1 can (15 ounces) black beans, drained
2 cans (15 ounces) pumpkin puree (found often on the baking aisle)
1 cup heavy cream
1 tablespoon curry powder, 1 palm full
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin, 1/2 palm full
1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper, eyeball it in the palm of your hand
Coarse salt
20 blades fresh chives, chopped or snipped, for garnish

Heat a soup pot over medium heat. Add oil. When oil is hot, add onion. Saute onions 5 minutes. Add broth, tomatoes, black beans and pumpkin puree. Stir to combine ingredients and bring soup to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low and stir in cream, curry, cumin, cayenne and salt, to taste. Simmer 5 minutes, adjust seasonings and serve garnished with chopped chives.

A new Obsession

Well Crystal and I took a fusion class and now we have a new obsession to spend all our money on, glass. I wish I could be the type of person who gets hooked on one thing and be done with it. But no I have to be a Gemini and never stick with one hobby or craft. I'm up to about 8 maybe 9 hobbies, not counting such hobbies as reading and writing. I wonder is it my attention span or do I just want to do it all. I'll post more pictures but this a look at our new financial ruin. Have a great week -Misty

Tortellini Soup

I thought that with the weather changing that maybe everyone could use a little warming up on the couch, with maybe a good book. So here is a good soup recipe to go along with your book. Let me tell you this is a good soup, that is not that bad for you either.
Tortellini Soup

You will need:

1 9 oz. package of cheese tortellini
1 can of cream of chicken soup
64 oz. of chicken broth
1 tbsp. of basil
1 tbsp. of minced garlic
1 tbsp. of oregano
1 cup of chopped carrot
1 cup of chopped celery
1 10 oz. package of frozen chopped broccoli
½ cup chopped onion (I used 1 tbsp. of onion flakes)
1 tsp. of salt
½ tsp. of pepper
3 chicken breasts
2 cubes of chicken bouillon dissolved in 2 cups of hot water

Boil chicken breasts and cut up into bite-sized pieces.
Mix broth and all ingredients above (except for the chicken and tortellini) and bring to a boil. Simmer for 10 minutes. Add chicken breast pieces and tortellini. Simmer for 25 minutes. Serve. -Crystal

Fun Friday Challenges

Tired of looking at all our artwork yet? How about some artwork done by my creative talented niece? She did these around the age of 10, she would die of embarrassment if she knew I was posting Pictures of them. They are suppose to be her and my daughter who was 7 at the time. Those were the day, now she is 13 and my daughter is 10. Time flies when they are having fun. I remember my niece use to do this stuff all the time, just take random items and start creating. Now she is into drawing fantasy characters from her books. I thought doing something like this would be great jump off for Fun Fridays. I know many blogs out there have something they do on certain days or challenges for their blog friends, so what about Fun Fridays. It will be little creative exercise, I will just do random challenges on Friday Mornings. If you want send us a picture of what you do and we will post it or however that works. Getting ready for Winter

I don't know how many of you have been to Kansas or lived here, but the weather is rather unpredictable. We had 70-80 degree weather last week and last night I thought I was going become Mr. Freeze getting from my car to the house. I broke out the fun and funky stocking caps last week. These are crocheted, the only thing I can crochet. As you can see I like to keep things I do festive, never a dull moment in my life why keep it out of my art? December was so kind to take the pictures for me, however my mom was the unwilling (I gather quite animate about not having her face in the picture) model so the pictures don't do these hats justice. I'm thinking of having my niece and daughter model them so you can see the true nature of these fabulous head warmers. All hats are $18.00 that includes shipping price by standard mail. -Misty

Well you are starting to get a little feel for what our house is like, little of this, little of that, and a whole lot of mess. Each one of us has a speciality along with dabbling in most of the arts. As you can see Crystal is a 2D person, she is fabulous at painting. December is our "Master" artist, she is more our graphic artist. I am more of a sculptor, I work in 3D. Here are a few pictures of those 3D items. I used clay you must fire in the kiln, then painted them, finished off with a little wire and beads. Of course a pin attached to the back. These are just a few of our clay/jewellery art. How To: Wreaths

From traditional Christmas to outrageous colors, there are many types of wreaths you can make for the holidays. Pick a holiday or any occasion and create a colorful masterpiece for your front door or as a gift. Don’t stick with the norm; extend your creative abilities by using a feather boa for Valentine’s Day, scrap materials for that special quilter or leftover game pieces that your child will love.

It’s easy enough, and we, The Sister’s Three, are here to tell you how.

1. Grab a scrap piece of paper and some colored pencils. Think about what type of wreath you would like to create. Determine which holiday, where you want to hang it and who you are creating it for. Sketch out an idea; think about colors and what materials you already have around the house.

2. Start gathering the basics. You will need floral wire, a hot glue gun, crafters glue, scissors, wire cutters, scrap materials, ribbons and any other essential pieces you choose.

3. Head out to your local craft store and pick up any other pieces needed. Hobby Lobby and Michaels usually have their holiday materials on sale throughout the season and, after the main event, with drastically discounted prices. Gather materials during the year and store them away for your crafting projects. Remember, step out of the box and think about different materials for your masterpiece. Wreaths don’t have to be Evergreen with basic Christmas bulbs. You can use star foam and little scrap pieces of material and finish with a bow. There are some wonderful grapevine wreaths on the market—think of the creative possibilities.

4. Lights, lights, lights. What’s a wreath if you can’t see it lit at night? Use whatever color of lights that match your theme—red, orange, purple, white, mixed—it’s completely up to you. Battery-operated lights are your best choice; they don’t get as hot and you don’t have to worry about finding that pesky plug-in or extension cord. Just make sure to keep extra batteries on hand. After you wrap the lights around the wreath, be sure to turn them on before going any further. Check out the placement and tuck in the wires.

5. Now you can lay out your design. Don’t attach anything just yet; make sure you have everything in place. Be sure to move the items around and think about other types of layouts before you settle on just one. Take a mental snap shot of how it looks so you can get everything in place.

6. Start attaching the pieces. Here is where the floral wire and hot glue gun come into play. The great thing about attaching your pieces with floral wire is longevity. The items are more likely to stay in place longer when properly attached. If you hot glue your pieces together, they will start to fall off and your wreath will not be suitable for outdoor elements like rain and snow.

7. The final step is hanging your masterpiece. There are many devices sold for this purpose, and they come in all colors, shapes and sizes, but why not create your own hanger? You can attach rope, chain or a nice big bow to your wreath to hang from your front door or on the walls.

It’s as simple as that, but there are a select few who really want that special artsy craft to hang in their homes or give as gifts, but they find themselves all thumbs when it comes to thinking creatively or time-consuming tasks. Don’t’ worry; there is help for you. Many local hobby and craft stores hold classes, and if that isn’t enough help, then you can turn to professionals like The Sister’s Three who will custom-build wreaths and cute home décor items (even handmade scarves, hats, etc.) specially suited for you.

Hello, I am Crystal the third sister. I too do not know how this new age techno stuff works! But I look forward to trying to understand it all, hopefully with a lot of sisterly help. I am also a ART Teacher and have currently just graduated, and hope to do a lot of creative things in the future with my new degree.

This is one of my latest pieces it is part of a series of many. I usually try to work more realistic, then I took my first watercolor class my senior year. My professor pushed me to work outside of my comfort zone. That was a big experience, I grew as an artist and have started to explore abstract art through watercolor. This is titled "Abstract Study One".

Hello out There in Cyberspace

Well this is going to be an interesting ride, three sisters, six different art styles, and one blog. I know, I know we are a little slow getting into this new age stuff called the internet. I hope this blog will be a great creative outlet for me, I don't know what my sisters expect out of this. I teach art in an elementary school, along with my younger sister Crystal. Our older sister December is a graphic designer. Our on going battle is who is more artistic, artist such as graphic designers or lowly art teachers.
